BIOGRAPHY AND QUALIFICATIONS Since moving to New York City Carlo De Rosa has had the opportunity to work with many great artists in the Jazz and Latin World. This has led to diverse musical and cultural experiences and has allowed Carlo to work with a wide variety of artists such as Ray Barretto, Ravi Coltrane, Dave Valentin, John Faddis, Yo-Yo Ma, Jack DeJohnette, Hilton Ruiz, Steve Turre, Bruce Barth, John Scofield, The Chico O’Farrill Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra, William Cepeda, Bobby Watson, Ed Thigpen, Nick Brignola, Mickey Roker, Warren Bernhardt, Candido Camero, Miguel Zenon, Jason Moran, Jean Toussaint, Papo Vasquez and the NYC Ballet. He collaborates and performs with many other great artists including: Vijay Iyer, Rudresh Mahanthappa, Amir ElSaffar, Arturo O’Farrill, Nasheet Waits, Mark Shim, Ingrid Jensen, Cristina Pato, Tyshawn Sorey, Sam Newsome, Donny McCaslin, Brad Shepik, Ralph Alessi, Luis Perdomo, Greg Tardy, Dave Allen, Orrin Evans, Chembo Corniel, Eric McPherson, Lucian Ban, Dan Weiss, Andrea Brachfeld, Ralph LaLama, Dave Gilmore and Steve Slagle. Proficient, creative, clearly an in demand bassist, Carlo De Rosa is earning a reputation of very high standards. As a US Jazz Ambassador in 1999 Carlo traveled to South Africa, Mauritius, Madagascar, Kenya, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe to perform and give master classes. Other performances abroad have led him to countries such as France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Estonia, Russia, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Holland, Belgium, Czech Republic, Argentina, Chile, Romania, Slovenia, Denmark, England, Scotland, Ireland, Serbia and Japan. His New York City engagements have included the Blue Note, Birdland, Zinc Bar, 55 Bar, Smalls, Visiones, Fat Cat, Knitting Factory, Detour, Smoke, Kavehaz, Makor, Sweet Rhythm, Jazz Standard, Nuyorican Poet’s Café, Tonic, Satalla, Town Hall, Barbès, Zebulon, Jazz at Lincoln Center: Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola, CBGB’s Lounge, Iridium, Cornelia Street Café, La Lanterna Caffe - Bar Next Door, Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall and the Jazz Gallery. In the US he has given clinics at the University of Maryland, Mercyhurst College (PA) and University of Massachusetts at Amherst among others. Since earning his Masters Degree at Manhattan School of Music he has ongoing teaching affiliations with the Drummers Collective, National Guitar Workshop and is an Adjunct Professor at Long Island University.
