Born Steven Demetre Georgiou in 1948, Cat Stevens rose to international fame in the late 1960s and early 1970s with albums such as Tea for the Tillerman and Teaser and the Firecat and hits including "Wild World", "Father and Son", and "Moonshadow". He converted to Islam in 1977, adopted the name Yusuf Islam, largely stepped away from mainstream pop for many years, and later returned to recording and touring credited as Yusuf / Cat Stevens.
