Formed in 1981, Force M.D.'s combined doo?wop–style vocal harmonies with street?level hip?hop sensibilities and scored a top?ten pop hit with "Tender Love" (1985), written and produced by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. They reached No. 1 on the US R&B chart with "Love Is a House" (1987) and are widely cited as influential precursors to the new jack swing movement.
