French formed in 1996 and is led by songwriter/guitarist Ian James. Their self-titled EP was recorded by Nicolas Vernhes at Rare Book Room and released in March 1996; the band has issued multiple EPs and albums over the 2000s–2010s and released a seasonal title in December 2024. The group has largely avoided mainstream publicity and keeps a minimal official web presence.
