Born June 4, 1971, he moved to New York City at age 19 and became a fixture on the downtown club scene. He has released more than a dozen albums as a leader — including Live at Smalls (2012) and Trio (Cellar Live) — and co-led sessions on the Criss Cross label. He was repeatedly voted a "rising star on the tenor" in DownBeat critics' polls and ranked among top tenor players in Swing Journal's 2009 poll.
