Joanna Sternberg was born in New York City on August 18, 1991. She started playing the piano and writing songs at age 5. She always drew pictures and had a vivid imagination. When Joanna turned 11 she learned how to play guitar and electric bass. She became obsessed with Motown records, R&B and Rock N’ Roll. When she turned 14 she was accepted to Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music and Art where she learned to play the upright bass. After high school she attended Mannes College for a year and a half. Now she is finishing her studies at the New School for Jazz & Contemporary Music in New York City. She enjoys playing all kinds of music (jazz, gospel, country, blues, folk, bluegrass, klezmer, rock, classical, r&b, soul, to name a few.) She plays guitar, upright bass, electric bass, banjo, fiddle, and piano. She also sings and writes songs. In addition to being a musician, Joanna is a visual artist who draws comics, cartoons, illustrations, and designs clothes and accessories. Joanna grew up in an artistic family consisting of writers, actors, comedians, singers, instrumentalists, cantors, and Yiddish theater performers. She lives in New York City and is constantly drawing pictures and performing music.
