In 1985, with a $5,000 loan from a retarded uncle, I bought NOISE NEW YORK; a 16track recording studio on 34th street in NYC, right across the street from Madison Square Garden. While Bruce Springsteen was playing 5 sold-out shows there, I was recording BUTTHOLE SURFERS songs that became part of "CREAM CORN FROM THE SOCKET OF DAVIS", the first KING MISSILE LP, HALF JAPANESE's "MUSIC TO STRIP BY", and laying down the basic tracks for my first solo LP, which eventually became part of BONGWATER's double-LP, DOUBLE BUMMER. in 1987, I founded SHIMMY-DISC and moved Noise New York downtown to Tribeca, where it remained for 4 years as Shimmy-Disc flourished. There I produced hundreds of recordings, including DANIEL JOHNSTON's seminal classic "1990", PUSSY GALORE, GWAR, and all three GALAXIE 500 LP's. In 1991, I moved into a 24track facility in a house in New Jersey just ten minutes over the George Washington Bridge, where i produced Will Oldham, Urge Overkill, Royal Trux, Luna, Danielson Familie, LOW, Alice Donut, Daevid Allen, Hugh Hopper, Robert Wyatt, and hundreds of other artists and bands.
I now MIX and MASTER records and cd's in my Florida home, while occasionally traveling the world to produce artists whose music is meaningful to me.
