Protocol V is the fifth edition of drummer Simon Phillips' long-running project "Protocol," featuring an expanded quintet lineup on the Protocol V album and tour. The Protocol series began with Phillips' solo/project releases in 1988 and has been presented live at venues including Blue Note Tokyo; the Protocol V lineup includes Ernest Tibbs, Otmaro Ruiz, Jacob Scesney and Alex Sill. Simon Phillips is also known for his decades-long session and touring career (including membership in Toto from 1992–2014) and continues to release and tour under the Protocol name.
