Ryo Sasaki is the principal violist of the NHK Symphony Orchestra, a position he has held since 2008. He studied at the Tokyo University of the Arts and The Juilliard School, and has won top prizes in major Japanese chamber-music competitions. Sasaki is active as a soloist and chamber musician, teaches at several Japanese conservatories, and serves as programming director for the Viola Space festival.
