Stephin Merritt (born February 9, 1965) is an American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, best known as the principal songwriter and singer of The Magnetic Fields. He wrote the acclaimed 1999 project 69 Love Songs and the later 50 Song Memoir (2017), has composed music for film and theater (including a stage adaptation of Coraline), and is noted for his literate lyrics and distinctive bass vocal delivery.
