We Beat The System are a Sunderland-based five piece band who formed in October 2009. They are a reasonably young band with signs of huge potential, already proven when they were tagged as the UK's 'Best Alternative Unsigned Act' in July 2010. Since forming the band they have supported the likes of; The Automatic, Frankie and the Heartstrings, Chapel Club, Flashguns, Dutch Uncles and Wilder and also played Sunderland’s 2010 Split Festival alongside Maximo Park and The Futureheads. Their sound has been described as Alternative/Post-Punk Revival, similar to bands such as Editors and White Lies, even being dubbed an early U2 by one Journalist.
In July 2010 We Beat The System were crowned the Best Alternative Unsigned Act In the UK at the Live and Unsigned Final at Londons O2 Arena. Live and Unsigned is the UK's largest music competition for original bands and solo artists. From over 10,000 unsigned acts that auditioned, We Beat The System impressed the judges through many rounds to earn thier place in the final 60 who would perform at Londons O2 Arena.
As they have progressed, the genre of the band has changed over time. Originally starting with a softer feel to their songs, however now tending to go for an approach of powerful vocals lines with melodic-strong guitar and synth sounds, held together with aggressive bass lines and solid drum patterns. They are currently writing new material as well as recording alongside Let’s Buy Happiness’ James Hall along with others.
