"One of the most exciting, innovative, and delightful dance companies in the entire world." – The New York Times
This mesmerizing performance weaves together three distinct Taylor masterworks:
Piazzolla Caldera (1997): Set to Astor Piazzolla’s fiery tango rhythms, this sultry work explodes with nocturnal passion, dark friction, and burning desire in a smoky, intoxicating dive bar.
Spindrift (1993): Set to Horatio Parker’s lush orchestral music, this wind-swept, buoyant work evokes ocean spray and rolling waves as a central soloist navigates the swirling currents of nature.
Cloven Kingdom (1976): Set to Baroque music mixed with driving percussion, this iconic comedy of manners peels back high society's polite facade to reveal the primitive animal nature lurking just beneath.
"The world's greatest dance company... performing works that are pure poetry in motion." – The Washington Post
Don't miss your chance to experience the artistry and athleticism that have made Paul Taylor Dance Company a cornerstone of the American stage for over 70 years.
The Paul Taylor Dance Company is one of the world’s leading dance organizations, based in New York City and with vast international reach. Under the artistic direction of Michael Novak, together with the best dancers, choreographers, educators, and creatives, the Company continues to innovate and transform the landscape of 21st-century dance performance and education. The Taylor Company was founded in 1954 by Paul Taylor (1930-2018), one of America’s most celebrated artists, whose work reflected his belief that dance can convey complex truths about the human experience.
The hallmark of the Company is the brilliance of its ever-expanding repertory. Of the 170 dances that exist within the canon (147 choreographed by Paul Taylor), many are hailed as among the greatest works of the 20th and 21st centuries. While celebrating these masterworks of the past, the Company invests heavily in the future of the art form, appointing Lauren Lovette as the Company's first Resident Choreographer in 2022 and Robert Battle as the Company’s second Resident Choreographer in 2024. Dedicated to sharing dance and education with the broadest possible audience, the Taylor Company sustains a global presence through its robust touring programs. Since its first European tour in 1960, the Company has performed in more than 600 cities in 66 countries, representing the United States at arts festivals and touring extensively under the aegis of the U.S. Department of State.
With a vast new headquarters in Midtown Manhattan, Taylor Dance West, adding to its longtime downtown studios, Taylor Dance East, the Company under Mr. Novak is positioned to be a greater resource in New York City. Its three creative sites across the city - Lincoln Center for the annual performance season, Midtown for Company creation and training, and the Lower East Side for dance instruction and community engagement - together realize Mr. Novak's vision for multiple spaces across the city to connect with the world of Taylor. Since its founding in 1980, Lehman Center for the Performing Arts has been deeply rooted in the cultural life of the Bronx. As the only theater of its size in the borough, with a capacity of more than 2,200 seats, Lehman Center provides Bronx residents with local, affordable access to high-quality live performances that entertain, educate, inspire, and celebrate the traditions of a multi-cultural community. In its 46-year tenure, The Center has been committed to bringing both local and national attention to historically underrepresented groups in the performing arts, such acts as Duke Ellington and Ella Fitzgerald in the 80s and 90s, to the Janelle Monae Super Bowl halftime show in 2011. Lehman Center serves the artistic needs of the community through four distinct programming series: “Punchline,” “First Curtain,” “Bronx Music,” and “The Discovery Series,” with specific focus on youth programming, comedy, the musical heritage of the Bronx, and exposure to wider global cultures. These longstanding traditions underscore Lehman Center’s historic role as one of the Bronx’s most important cultural institutions, dedicated to preserving and uplifting diverse artistic heritage for all.
Lehman Center for the Performing Arts, Inc. is supported, in part, by public funds through the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the New York City Council and the Bronx Delegation.
Additional funding is provided by the New York State Council on the Arts with support from the office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature. We are thrilled to share that Goya Foods has agreed to renew their sponsorship for this season, which will help Lehman Center expand our reach to the community.
In addition, we have secured funding from the Howard Gilman Foundation to help grow our programming. The 2026-2027 season is also made possible through sponsorships by Con Edison, Havana Café, Friends of Lehman Center, and our cherished audience members.
