About
Vocalist April Wu returns to The Red Pavilion with the music of Teresa Teng, the singer whose voice moved through Chinese households across every border.
For years her records were banned in mainland China, denounced as music that saps the will. People listened anyway, on cassettes smuggled in from Hong Kong, and on loudspeakers aimed across the strait from Kinmen. A saying from the era: by day the country belonged to Old Deng (Deng Xiaoping), by night to Little Deng (Teresa Teng).
The evening draws from songs including 月亮代表我的心 (The Moon Represents My Heart), 甜蜜蜜 (Sweet as Honey), 我只在乎你 (I Only Care About You), 小城故事 (Small Town Story), 何日君再來 (When Will You Return), and more.
A night of songs you've probably heard in a kitchen, a taxi, or a parent's car, heard again live in a dark room.
Walk-ins welcome. 2 Drink Minimum per person for table service. 21+ ID Required. All Sales Final.
