About
WHAT MAKES IT GREAT?
Featuring Terra String Quartet
Schuberts gripping quartet is one of the most frequently performed and emotionally affecting works in the chamber music repertoire. Written during a period of illness, isolation and despair, this haunting piece pushes the string quartet to extremes of drama and power as it moves between terror, resistance and moments of eerie calm. Host Rob Kapilow unravels the music and shows how Schuberts attempt to imitate his idol Beethoven allowed him to find his own voice and produce a fiercely original masterpiece that remains one of the pillars of the chamber music canon.
The Kaufman Fellows program is fully underwritten by Rose Hirschel.
