Janice Friedman Trio

Born and based in New York City, Janice has done music here and all over the world for over three decades. She’s played in the most famous of concert halls and notable clubs from Carnegie Hall and the JFK Arts Center to the Blue Note, Birdland, Kitano, Smoke, Dizzy’s Jazz Club, Sweet Basil, Sweet Rhythm, Mezzrow, Smalls and Iridium. You can safely say she has wowed audiences from coast to coast and on practically every continent on the globe. Having performed in countless jazz festivals in both the USA, Europe Asia and South America, her performance at the JVC Jazz Festival had NY Times Jazz Critic, John Wilson, hail her as the highlight of the program. Friedman has joined musical forces with some of the biggest names in Jazz including Lew Tabakin, Billy Higgins and Joe Lovano. World famous pianist, Marian McPartland had her as a featured guest on her radio show “Piano Jazz,” as well as joining her on tour around the country. Janice has recorded with such varied musicians as Milt Hinton, Warren Vache’ and Claudio Roditi. You can hear plenty of big band influence. Janice is one of the few women ever to tour on a road band, having traveled the country with The Woody Herman Orchestra. Janice boasts many strong recordings as a leader beginning with the recording “The Janice Friedman Trio.” This was followed by Triptych: A Trio of Trios. With her 2005 recording, “Swingin’ for the Ride”, she was introduced as a vocalist as well as pianist, getting airplay each week on the Jonathan Schwartz show who felt her version of “Don’t Blame Me” was “the best he’d ever heard.” Her solo CD, “Half and Half” has been released and includes a very intimate look at this artist took on life’s challenges and focused it into musical depth. “Janice Friedman: Live at Kitano” is her most recent recording, featuring Friedman’s hot trio with the incomparable Victor Lewis on drums and Ed Howard on bass. With this past year of covid, Friedman took to social media and produced a different show each week streaming live from her home a show called OVER the HUMP!
