Jumaane Smith Quintet

Jazz trumpeter, vocalist, and composer Jumaane Smith has performed on 5 GRAMMY Award- winning records (selling more than 60 million copies), 2 Emmy Award-nominated TV performances, the GRAMMY Awards with Stevie Wonder, in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story (trumpet solo actor), at The White House, on the Today Show, Tonight Show, Oprah, Good Morning America, and American Idol. Jumaane has spent the last 17 years touring and recording with Michael Bublé as lead trumpeter and vocalist, was a member of Harry Connick Jr.’s house band for the syndicated daytime TV show “Harry,” and the featured guest soloist for Jackie Evancho’s, “Songs of the Silver Screen” world tour backed by a 60-piece symphony orchestra. Jumaane has toured with his own band to such world-class venues as Jazz At Lincoln Center, Vail Jazz Festival, Java Jazz Festival, Loew’s Regency, North Star Festival, Joe's Pub, Rochester International Jazz Festival, Catalina Island Jazz Festival, and many more. Jumaane Smith’s critically-acclaimed debut album, “I Only Have Eyes For You,” features special guests Michael Bublé, Jackie Evancho, and Naturally 7. His sophomore album, “When You’re Smiling,” was released to much praise in January 2020. As a composer, Smith has scored music for films such as “Handsome Harry” (starring Steve Buscemi and Jamey Sheridan) and the documentary “Being in the World,” as well as for his own recordings and the interactive sheet music company Tomplay. Smith has worked with musical legends such as Quincy Jones, Herbie Hancock, Aretha Franklin, Christian McBride, Barbra Streisand, and many more. As a full scholarship recipient at the Juilliard School of Music’s Jazz Studies program (2001-2005), Wynton Marsalis was Smith’s primary trumpet teacher. New York City based saxophonist and flutist Ian Hendrickson-Smith is mostly noted for his remarkable tone, soulful approach and blues driven melodies. Equally adept on all the saxophones, Ian stays very busy doing what he loves and loves staying busy! From 2004 to 2010, Hendrickson-Smith maintained an intense recording and touring schedule as a member of Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings. Currently you can find Ian playing with The Roots onThe Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallonand also with the incredible Loston Harris Trio at the Carlyle Hotel in NYC. Hendrickson-Smith’s extensive recording experience includes the release of ten jazz records as a leader. His most recent, Live At Smalls (SmallsLive 2015) garnered critical acclaim from the New York Times. In addition, Ian is the proprietor of an exciting jazz record label: Rondette Jazz. Take a look around... Will Gorman is a pianist, organist, singer and composer from Syracuse, NY. Starting classical lessons at a young age, he was dragged to jazz band in high school and never turned back. He attended William Paterson University, working with Bill Charlap and Harold Mabern, among others, and completed his B.M. in piano in 2019 and M.M. in Composition and Arranging in 2020. Throughout this time, he’s performed extensively with jazz notables such as Vincent Herring, Claudio Roditi, Winard Harper, and Sheila Jordan among others. An up and coming arranger, contributing two arrangements for big band to be featured on veteran organist Radam Schwartz’s next release. Most recently, he has been playing with Grammy nominated saxophonist Irwin Hall and his new organ trio, featuring Jerome Jennings on drums, with an album to be released in 2020. At age 19, he joined the band of Grammy award-winning blues master Joe Louis Walker, balancing time on the road and school. He’s played extensively with rising blues stars “King” Solomon Hicks and Vanessa Collier, including work on Collier’s last two albums. Will has performed at clubs and festivals all over the U.S., Europe, South America and Asia, including Jazz in Marciac, Blue Note Beijing, Jazz Madrid, Rochester International Jazz Festival, Smoke Jazz and Supper Club, The Black Cat and many more. In 2018, Will was a fellow in the Program for Jazz at Ravinia's Steans Music Institute, studying composition with Rufus Reid and Billy Childs. Growing up in Syracuse, he had the opportunity to serve as musical director at Southern Baptist Church, playing organ and directing the choir, as well as tour extensively with the Stella Award winning gospel group, Charles Cannon and the Bells of Harmony. This artist does not have a bio yet. Born in Buffalo, NY, Carmen Intorre developed an early interest in music and began playing drums at age five. He has performed and recorded with numerous musicians such as George Benson, Larry Coryell, Wynton Marsalis, Monty Alexander, George Coleman, Eric Alexander, George Cables, Benny Golson, Richie Cole, Joe Locke, Lew Tabackin, Bobby Watson, Ira Sullivan, Bucky Pizzarelli, and many others. Carmen currently holds down the drum chair with legendary jazz guitarist Pat Martino, touring extensively throughout the world with the guitarist’s organ trio and quintet. A 2011 GRAMMY® nominee for his co-producer credit on the critically acclaimed album by Joey DeFrancesco entitled Never Can Say Goodbye: The Music of Michael Jackson, Intorre also had the pleasure of performing alongside DeFrancesco and Dr. Lonnie Smith on the PBS show Legends of Jazz, hosted by Ramsey Lewis. Receiving both his BM and MM degrees from Juilliard Intorre is always eager to uncover the latest information about music and drumming and to share that information with others. He states, “This is my job. I have to give back what I was given a chance to do.” He goes on to explain, “Music is an opportunity for me to give up my soul, while in the process connecting with the audiences’ souls as well. I want the musicians on the bandstand and the members of the audience to feel uplifted after a performance, to feel great about themselves through the experience that they encountered.” Perhaps one word best describes Carmen Intorre and his music: Joy. Reminiscent of Billy Higgins, Intorre brings a palpable swing and drive to virtually every bandstand he performs on.
