The Upsides are an indie rock act based in New York City, consisting of brothers Matt and Dan Fullam with longtime friends Hart Mechlin, Pat Freeman and Matt DaSilva. On their 2024 self-titled debut album, the band created a distinct blend of "irresistible 90s jangle pop" (We All Want Someone to Shout For) paired with uptempo guitar work reminiscent of the early aughts NYC rock revival. The result is a sound that is "accessible, unique, and timeless" (Glide Magazine).
The group is currently at work on a second album, heading in a bold new direction as they draw inspiration from heavier Soundgarden-esque sounds of the 90s while still allowing for the trademark wistful jangle from the first album to evolve and fit this new mold. The songs occupy a bigger emotional spectrum than the debut, and mixing engineer Austin Asvanonda (Sam Fender, The War on Drugs) is working with the band to bring this dynamic sonic landscape to life. Singles will be released throughout the summer until the album comes in October 2026.
