About

Walk through a Gilded Age New York where the wealthy “upper tens” and working-class “lower millions” lived only blocks apart but rarely by the same rules. This two-hour tour from Greenwich Village to Union Square explores what great fortunes could conceal and the labor on which they depended. A sensational murder exposes what polite society preferred not to discuss, while garment workers risk violence to demand shorter hours from owners who had risen from sweatshops to mansions. Near Union Square, robber barons share a dinner table with bank robbers.
