Then homed in on the organization of pitches after picking up the recorder at the age of 7. After that came the years of formulation, manipulation and organization; eventually picking up the saxophone at age 10. Since then life has been driven by the developing personality and creationism of my musical experience. In essence my musical experience is a window into an obsessive-compulsive hodgepodge of my life; on display for anyone but meant for no one. My music is an expressionistic collection of my experiences transduced into vibrations as a way for me to continue my cycle. I don’t want everyone to listen to my music, that is not my goal. My goal: The portrayal of music in the most authentic and genuine form. David has also been invited as a featured performer at the Clearwater Jazz Holiday Festival and Suncoast Jazz Festival. David has also worked with renowned composers such as Miho Hazama, Eric Richards and Mike Tomaro in various different settings. Education outreach has been a constant in his career with clinics for local arts programs, high schools and a lesson studio consisting of students from across the state of Florida. Having played with Brian Lynch, Jon Faddis, Samara Joy, Pasquale Grasso, Roy Hargrove, Barry Harris and more. Kerrytown Concert House is honored to introduce award-winning virtuoso jazz trombonist Nanami Haruta with Sliding into Swing, backed by the outstanding Paul Keller Quartet: Adam Mosley (piano), Ralph Tope (guitar), Paul Keller (bass), and David Alvarez III (drums). Born in Japan, Haruta began studying music at the age of 5, and by 13 years old was giving concerts in Sapporo. She went on to win multiple grand prizes at significant summer music programs during her high school years, and with a move to Tokyo in 2020 and quickly began making an impact on the Japanese jazz scene. Her artistic activities expanded to involve significant jazz collaborations, performances, and recordings (her first solo album “II” was released in 2022). She is currently a music student at Michigan State University’s Jazz Studies program studying with Grammy award-winning trombonist and professor Michael Dease. Haruta was recently selected to the 2024 Sisters in Jazz Collegiate Jazz Combo which performed at the Annual Jazz Educators Conference this past January in New Orleans. Acclaimed for his “gentle fire” (UK Jazz News) and as a “beacon of taste [who plays] like an old master” (All About Jazz NYC), Evan Sherman is a drummer, bandleader, and arranger whose seasoned artistry reflects a deep commitment to the jazz tradition. A native of New Jersey, Evan first sat down at the drums at age 5 and was performing professionally by 13. He has since played on five continents at renowned venues including the Village Vanguard, Carnegie Hall, Hollywood Bowl, Walt Disney Hall, Chicago Symphony Hall, Royal Albert Hall, Paris Philharmonie, Wiener Konzerthaus, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, as well as at international jazz festivals such as Newport, Detroit, Monterey, SFJazz, North Sea, Montreux, Umbria, and many more. Starting in his late teens, Evan gained invaluable experience on the bandstand, touring and being mentored by musical icons such as Ron Carter, Cyrus Chestnut, Roy Hargrove, Jimmy Heath, John Lee, both Branford and Wynton Marsalis. In 2014, he founded the 16-piece Evan Sherman Big Band, which has headlined at Jazz at Lincoln Center, Blue Note, Birdland, Rainbow Room, and Perth International Arts Festival (Australia). Evan released a quintet album, Sidewalkin’, in 2021 and has appeared on over 10 albums as a sideman. Since 2022, Evan has recorded and toured internationally with vocalist Samara Joy, with appearances on the GRAMMY Awards, The Tonight Show with JImmy Fallon, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Today, and 60 Minutes. He is featured on her 2023 GRAMMY-winning song “Tight” and 2024 album Portrait. A passionate educator, Evan earned his Bachelor of Music from Manhattan School of Music on a Presidential Scholarship. He teaches privately and has presented clinics in Canada, China, Doha, Israel, and across the US. Evan endorses Zildjian Cymbals, Vic Firth Drumsticks, and Prologix Drum Pads.
